Andrea Berti

Chef

My name is Andrea Berti, and I was born and raised in Teglio, nestled in the enchanting Valtellina region, famously known as the “home of pizzoccheri.” My parents operated a charming traditional restaurant until recently, which sparked my deep passion for cooking. To nurture this passion, I enrolled in hotel management school in Bormio. At the age of 17, I ventured to the beautiful Engadine, particularly to Pontresina, where I spent 15 wonderful years.

I began my culinary journey as a commis, fueled by enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work. Within two years, my efforts were rewarded when I was promoted to sous chef. After gaining three more years of invaluable experience, I proudly ascended to the position of chef de cuisine. In 2021, I relocated to Maloja, where I now share my life with my wife. At the Schweizerhaus, I discovered a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and in the Wintsch family, I found not only friendship but also a professional camaraderie.

I am a passionate sports enthusiast, engaging in various activities such as mountain biking, running, paragliding, cross-country skiing, and ski mountaineering. Another significant passion of mine is motorcycles. For about 12 years, I participated in small competitions across Italy, achieving considerable success. Over time, this love for motorcycles has blossomed into a journey of collecting and independently restoring classic bikes.

I thrive in healthy competition and enjoy challenging myself, always striving for improvement in every endeavor. This relentless pursuit of excellence is what makes my work truly fulfilling.
