Giovanni Segantini
Ever higher, ever more famous
Giovanni Segantini is considered a great innovator of Alpine painting and an important representative of fin-de-siècle symbolism. His stations in life - Arco in South Tyrol, Milan, Brianza to the north, Savognin in the Oberhalbstein, Maloja in the Engadin and finally the Schafberg high above Pontresina - were often paralleled as a steady ascent with the artist's steep career: "Ever higher - ever more famous".
